Equilibration

Services

Traumatic occlusion is a disorder in which the upper and lower jaw are not in harmony with each other. This causes the teeth to not fit together properly. When this happens, people have to work harder to try to get their teeth to mesh. This extra work can cause jaw problems, like TMJ, head and neck pain, and premature wearing of the teeth. An effective treatment for this condition is equilibration.

Equilibration is the process of adjusting the bite by reshaping and harmonizing the meshing of the teeth. It is achieved through altering the contact points of the teeth to redistribute the applied forces in the most appropriate manner. Think of it as realigning the gears on your bicycle. When the gears are out of alignment, shifting is jerky, and the gears wear out prematurely. After realigning the gears, shifting is smooth and the gears wear much longer. The same is true for your teeth.
